Emiliano Zapata
Emiliano Zapata had one dream; Life and
Liberty. Zapata went from being your average Mexican peasant, to the
epic hero of his land. Zapata was first arrested for protesting when
the lands of his people were stolen by the hacienda. Zapata then
began his heroic efforts to obtain Land and Liberty for his people.
He was appointed president of the board of defense for his village.
While president, Zapata and a group of peasants took back their land
by force. Zapata was famous for the quotes “Life and Liberty” as
well as “It is better to die on your feet than to live on your
knees”. He supported these ideals by battling for every inch of land
and the rights or every peasant. With only 5,000 men, Zapata
conquered Cuautla and cut all communication off to Mexico City. This
is a bold action for one man. Zapata and Pancho Villa fought
together on many occasions. Zapata had no fear; he would do anything
for freedom.
